Gambia is the smallest country on the African mainland. It is surrounded on three sides by Senegal but its fourth side opens directly onto the Atlantic ocean. It is known as “The Smiling Coast” of Africa, because the country cuts through the middle of Senegal and when viewed on a map, it looks like a smile on the west coast of the African continent. And as an added bonus, Gambians have a reputation for being some of the friendliest people on the continent.
